CHALLENGE: Develop the visual identity for the documentary Re-Ken-Si-Le-A-Shen (reconciliation), a film by Two-Spirit Métis filmmaker Jamie Bourque-Blyan. They connect fellow survivors of conquest and colonization to explore how other countries have engaged in the process of reconciliation and how these approaches to healing might be applied in so-called Canada.

SOLUTION: A mapping of the colonized locations overlaid upon the documentary’s subjects. As the film documents the links between these diverse stories, the design also visually unifies the land with its indigenous peoples, and the indigenous peoples with each other. The type treatment displays the missing elements left in so-called Canada’s process of reconciliation, holes which can
begin to be filled in when looking to other country’s journeys.

This documentary aired on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on APTN, the World's First National Indigenous Broadcaster.
